Treatment For Gum Disease
There are two treatments for gum disease:
1) Non-surgical therapy (Scaling and root planing)
Scaling and root planing is a careful cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus [tartar] from deep periodontal pockets and to smooth the tooth root to remove bacterial toxins. This is an attempt to reduce the bacterial trap and make the gums accessibe to be cleaned with regular tooth brushing and flossing.
2) Periodontal Surgery
If you’re diagnosed with periodontal disease then periodontal surgery is necessary. when the gum tissue around your teeth is unhealthy and cannot be repaired with non-surgical treatment surgical treatments most commonly prescribed. Periodontal surgery involves folding back the gum tissue and removing the disease-causing bacteria before securing the tissue back into place. In some cases, irregular surfaces of the damaged bone are smoothed to limit areas where disease-causing bacteria can hide. This allows the gum tissue to better reattach to healthy bone.
